About Josephine Tey
Josephine Tey (1896-1952) is the pen name of Elizabeth MacKintosh. The Scottish author's other pen name was Gordon Daviot. Under the latter, she wrote numerous stage, radio, and television plays, as well as poetry and nonfiction. She is remembered for her series detective, Inspector Alan Grant. He featured in six novels, most notably Daughter of Time and The Franchise Affair. Her standalone crime novels included Miss Pym Disposes and Brat Farrar. Her novel, A Shilling for Candles, was the basis of Hitchcock's 1937 film Young and Innocent.
