Part of the “solve-it-yourself” detective book craze of the 1920s and 1930s, these thirty short crime problems make the reader play detective, challenging them to solve whodunnit.

About Lassiter Wren and Randle McKay

Lassiter Wren (pseudonym of John T. Colter), with co-author Randle McKay, launched the concept of the "puzzle book" in which the reader becomes the detective. Its instant popularity led it to become a four-part series.

Randle McKay (pseudonym of Richard Rowan) was educated at Brown University and Columbia University. He served in the US Army Chemical Warfare Service during World War I. He published nonfiction books about the history of espionage under his own name.
