About Arthur Conan Doyle
Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a Scottish physician and writer who created Sherlock Holmes, literature's most famous detective. Beyond the Holmes stories, he wrote historical novels, science fiction, and spiritualist works. Knighted in 1902, Doyle's rational detective contrasted with his own fervent belief in the supernatural.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is the Shedunnit Book Club's read for March 2026. The book has also been mentioned on the episodes "Agatha Christie's Taste in Crime Fiction" and "The Mystery Short Story". Caroline has read one of the stories from the collection, "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle", aloud for members at the Seasoned Detective level.
Because The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is out of copyright, you can find it to read for free in lots of places online, and in cheap print/ebook editions. Be aware, though, that these might not be of the highest editorial quality. Two reputable digital sources (meaning that the text is more likely to be complete and free from errors) are Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive.
